In celebration of its 125th anniversary, T/R.K.M. Sri Koneswara Hindu College initiated a green project by planting 125 diverse trees in the school playground. Commencing on October 24, 2021, the eco-friendly endeavor engaged retired principals and Mr. Thaneswaran, Divisional Secretary of Town & Gravets, highlighting a commitment to environmental awareness. Sponsored by generous contributions from the college’s alumni, totaling Rs. 772,552, the project concluded on June 3, 2022, under the guidance of Green World Trincomalee.

Carefully selecting 125 plant species, the initiative aimed not only to commemorate the milestone but also to establish a sustainable ecosystem, symbolizing the college’s dedication to environmental stewardship. The event’s focus extended beyond enhancing the school’s aesthetics; it aimed to instill positive attitudes toward environmental conservation among students. Research supports the notion that proximity to nature positively influences mental well-being and academic performance.
The college envisions a greener, healthier future as the 125 trees flourish, serving as living symbols of its rich history and commitment to a sustainable future. Gratitude is extended to retired principals, Mr. Thaneswaran, and alumni whose contributions have laid the foundation for a more environmentally aware and responsible community.
