Harikaran Dhanvant Meets President to Celebrate Record-Breaking Palk Strait Swim

On July 5th, 2024, Harikaran Dhanvant, a 13-year-old swimming prodigy, was celebrated at a momentous event hosted at the Batticaloa Air Force Base Hotel. President Hon. Ranil Wickramasinghe, alongside Eastern Province Governor Hon. Senthil Thondaman, recognized Harikaran for his record-breaking achievement of crossing the challenging Palk Strait in an astonishing 9 hours, 32 minutes, and 54 seconds.

The Palk Strait, known for its formidable waters between India and Sri Lanka, tested Harikaran’s endurance and skill, making his accomplishment even more remarkable at such a young age.

President Wickramasinghe lauded Harikaran’s dedication and perseverance, emphasizing his achievement as a testament to Sri Lanka’s youthful potential and talent. Governor Thondaman was also commended for orchestrating the event, underscoring the importance of acknowledging and celebrating the accomplishments of young athletes.

Expressing gratitude, Harikaran credited his success to his family, coaches, and the community, sharing insights into his rigorous training and the challenges he overcame.
